The next day the curvaceous beauty practically falls into his lap again, and seeing it as an opportunity to get to know her better, he pursues.

Can two warriors from two different branches of services, two different paths of life, really find the one in a wanton moment – and can it last for a lifetime?

EXCERPTS

Her Captain’s Command by Isabella Kole

The time had come. She took her bags from the driver, paid him and made her way up the plank to meet her destiny. She asked one of the seaman where she could find the captain, and he offered to escort her to him. And there he was. His back was turned to her. He was issuing orders to some of the crew already on board, and she could feel the heat beginning to grow in her limbs as she watched him, capable, still as hot as ever, taking charge. There was no doubt to his authority, he was in complete control.
He turned, and she presented herself to him. “Lt. Commander Vandecamp reporting for duty, sir,” she said as she saluted her superior officer.
The look of shock that crossed Blaine’s face was fleeting. Professionalism took over as he said, “Welcome aboard, Lt. Commander Vandecamp. I must say this is a surprise. Charlie, is it?” he asked.
Did he really not recognize her? How could that be? Had their four years together meant so little to him?
“Yes, I go by Charlie these days,” she replied warily.
“Let’s go into the office and get acquainted. I would like to go over some things with you. I trust you have all the necessary paperwork with you?” he asked.
“Of course, sir,” she responded.
He led her into the space that served as his office on the ship and waved his hand for her to sit. “Coffee?” he asked.
“Yes, please,” she answered, watching as he prepared two cups, adding cream to both. He had not asked her how she took hers, so maybe he did remember, after all.
He handed her a cup of the hot brew and sat down, facing her across the desk. “So, Charlie, tell me, how long have you been in the Navy? And where is your husband?” He took a sip of his coffee and held out his hand for her papers.
With slightly shaking hands, she handed the paperwork to him. She watched as he scanned over them and looked up, waiting for her reply.
“I-I enlisted four years after I graduated from college. I was recommended, after recruit training, to enter the OCS, so that is what I did. That was ten years ago,” she replied.
“I see. You moved up fairly quickly. Although, I enrolled in OCS fourteen years ago, so I guess I’m not that far ahead of you,” he said. “And your husband? A Navy man?”
Charlie took a sip of her drink before answering. “I met my husband in Officer Candidate School. We have since divorced, and he is no longer in the Navy. He chose to resign his commission.”
“Ah, I see,” he said without emotion. An uncomfortable silence followed until Blaine finally spoke again, “Charlotte Rose, I have to say I was quite surprised to see that you are my newly assigned XO. I can assure you that our past history will in no way reflect our working together on this ship. Is that understood?”
So he did recognize her! Her heart skipped several beats. Her mouth went dry, and she quickly took another sip of coffee before replying, “I understand, sir.”
“The United States Navy expects us to do a job. Any personal problems we have with each other are to remain just that—personal.”
“Of course, sir,” she said quietly.
“You are to follow my orders to the letter. If you can prove you can do that, we’ll have no problems. I seem to recall a bit of a rebellious nature in your personality. I trust your time with the Navy has cured you of that.”
She nearly laughed out loud. “Of course, sir,” was all she said in reply.
“Now, I’ll show you to your quarters, and after you’ve settled in, you’ll join me on deck. There is much to be done today.”
She stood and saluted him as her superior officer, although it rankled her to do so. “Yes, sir.”
She thought she could see a half smile escape his lips before he walked around to her side of the desk to escort her to her cabin.
“Shall we?” he asked.
“Of course, sir, lead the way.”
“I could get used to you calling me sir,” he said, half-teasingly, as he escorted her to her door.
She looked up at him in surprise.

Stormy Weather by Desiree Holt

Someone was out there in the bay in a little skiff, trying to get to shore. In point of fact, whoever it was appeared to have lost one of the oars, and was struggling against the elements to make headway. He couldn’t tell that much about the person except the figure was small and wet. Who in hell was crazy enough to let their kid out in this weather? Wherever they were, if Zane got hold of them he’d wring their necks. While he’d love to leave the person out there, he didn’t want to be responsible for anyone else’s death. But, fuck. There went his precious solitude.

Still swearing a steady stream, he pulled on boots, a rain slicker and head gear, and headed down to the little dock. It took him a while to get the bowrider uncovered and power it up. He hated exposing the beautiful interior of the boat to the elements but the skiff would be useless in this storm. He couldn’t in good conscience let some kid drown out there because his or her family was brainless enough to let them out alone in this kind of weather.

As soon as he was away from the dock, Zane cranked up the throttle and headed for the floundering rowboat. The rain pounded on him, dripping off his rain cap into his face, but he kept himself focused on his target. When he was close enough he throttled back and steered close to the rowboat. The person wrestling with the boat sat on one of the seats, waving at him and yelling something, impossible to hear over the storm. As he maneuvered alongside and got a good look at the person, shock raced through his system. This wasn’t a kid, it was a girl. No, a woman. Very definitely a woman, a fact made obvious by the way her thin T-shirt and white shorts were plastered against her body. Her breasts wouldn’t have been any more obvious if she’d been standing there stark naked.

What the fuck was she doing out here, alone, in this weather?

Maneuvering the boat on the choppy waters while fighting the wind and rain was not the easiest thing Zane had ever done. He also had to be careful he didn’t knock the rowboat and cause it to capsize. He managed to finesse it so he could idle next to the floundering boat, and pulled up on the side closest to where she was sitting.

“Come on,” he shouted. “Get in.”

For a moment she just stared at him, and he was afraid she was too nervous to move. Then she eased herself as close to him as she could, pushed herself up and reached out to him. Ignoring any niceties he yanked and tumbled her into the bowrider, pushing the throttle forward as soon as she was all in.

Heading back to the island he was driving right into the rain, and it felt like a thousand wet knives on his skin. He looked at his passenger, huddled low in the boat, hugging herself and shivering, and kicked himself for not bringing something to wrap around her. He’d just have to get her into a hot shower the minute they were back in the cottage.

No, Zane. Send her into the shower, not get her in. Or take her in. Pay attention.

The ride was choppy and chilling but at last he pulled up to the dock, cut the motor, and jumped out to tie off the boat. He reached a hand down to help his passenger out.

“Go on inside,” he told her. “It’s open.” When she didn’t move he scowled. “Don’t worry, you’ll be safe. I’m off women for the duration.”

She just continued to stand there, hugging herself, her eyes wide, staring at the scar on his face.

“It’s not as bad as it looks,” he told her. “A war souvenir. I might look frightening but I promise I won’t hurt you.”

“A-all right.” But still she didn’t move. Her eyes were filled with fear and he had the distinct feeling it wasn’t all caused by him.

SEAL of Her Dreams by Paige Tyler

“You’re seriously going out with a Navy guy?” From where she was leaning back on her hands on the flower-print comforter covering the bed, Melissa’s neighbor-slash-best-friend Veronica Cartwright eyed her dubiously. “I thought you had a strict no-sailor policy when it came to potential boyfriend material?”

“I do.” Melissa turned this way and that in front of the mirror mounted on the back of the door to the closet, checking out her reflection. She wanted to look nice for Kurt, but not so nice that he’d think she was interested in him. So while the little black dress hugged her curves, it didn’t show too much leg or too much cleavage, and the platform sandals didn’t scream, come and get me. “Though, to be honest, there’s absolutely no boyfriend potential here. I’m only going out with Kurt because he helped me out with my career day fiasco at school. I had twelve parents lined up for today and ten of them canceled at the last minute. If Kurt hadn’t stepped in and spent an hour playing with the kids, the entire event would have been a train wreck.”

Veronica shrugged her slim shoulders. “He sounds like a pretty good guy to me. Is there anything wrong with him other than the Navy thing? I mean, is he hideously ugly or something?”

Hideously ugly? Melissa’s lips curved. That would be a definite no. In fact, Kurt Travers was extremely attractive. Heck, she might go so far as to say he was gorgeous. There was even a part of her that was kind of psyched a guy this hot wanted to go out with her. But it was a small part, and she was smart enough to push those silly thoughts aside and forget about them. She came from a Navy family, and had seen firsthand what a woman had to deal with if she wanted to be involved with a man whose job required him to be away from home more than he was there. It had taken a toll on her mom and the family. Melissa had no desire to walk down that road again.

This date was a one-time thing. A thank-you for a man who’d helped her out of a tight spot. That was it—period, end of sentence.

Still, Kurt was freaking hot. There was no denying that. And when she’d stood close to him while they’d watched the kids run around the playground at recess, she couldn’t help but notice he smelled yummy, too. Then there was the obvious fact that the guy had a totally awesome body. Even the blue camouflage uniform he’d been wearing couldn’t hide that.

“Should I assume from the dreamy look on your face that Kurt isn’t ugly?” Veronica asked.

Their Runaway Bride by Vanessa Vale

“You will marry him.”

“I will not,” I replied.

My father stood, looming over me as I sat in one of the room’s very uncomfortable chairs. I looked at the floor, the carpet’s dark colors swirling as my eyes filled with tears. Taking a deep breath, I willed them away. My father had ruled my life, squeezed every bit of enjoyment from it until there was barely any left.

“I will not have Mr. Atherton thinking you are common. We are anything but.”

Yes, common. My father did not lower himself to be like everyone else. God forbid I stopped and petted a dog. A pedigree dog in first class. Thomas Geary did not stop to pet a dog. He did not stop to deign anyone with his miserable presence unless it was of value to him. Including me. I was just his daughter. I wasn’t a son—just a daughter who enjoyed petting dogs and helping the elderly woman on the stairs going to dinner. A daughter who refused to conform to his every wish.

“I am not common, Father. You’ve ensured that,” I countered. “But Mr. Atherton holds no appeal to me. I’ve told you that time and again.”

He walked over to me and I had to tilt my chin back to look at him. “He holds appeal to me and, more importantly, you hold appeal for him. Merging his railroad with my land holdings is crucial, Anne, and I will not have you ruining our arrangements.”

“So marriage to the man is part of the arrangement? What about love?”

Father laughed. “Love? This isn’t about love. This business venture, even this trip, it’s all about money.

Shame made my cheeks heat, for I believed in love wholeheartedly, while he did not. He’d married my mother because of an arrangement, and there had been no love between them. I didn’t remember her, but I could not imagine any woman loving my father. She was just someone to produce an heir for him, and she hadn’t even done that right. She’d made me, a female, then died giving birth to Father’s true heir. The baby boy had died as well.

He’d been stuck with me ever since. Why he hadn’t remarried and found another woman to breed, I had no idea.

I stood up and lifted my chin, met the same blue eyes as mine. I hoped that was the only thing we had in common. “I refuse.”

Owned by the Marine by Renee Rose

She was looking through his bedside drawer—the one where he kept the kinky shit. Like lube and butt plugs and…yeah. She picked up a hand paddle and spun it around. He ought to be ashamed of himself. Instead, seeing her curiosity sent a fresh surge of lust kicking through him.

“Shouldn’t you be in bed? Getting some rest?”

She jerked and looked up with guilty surprise on her face. “Uh…is this yours?” She spun the paddle around like she admired the feel of it—not like someone who was revolted.

“Yep.” He raised an eyebrow, doing his best to look stern. “Do you need a demonstration?” He toed the door open and folded his arms across his chest.

Her full berry lips parted, tongue darted out to moisten them. Her nipples tented the thin fabric of her shirt. “Yeah.”

Yeah?

He hadn’t expected that answer.

A flush had crept over her cheeks and her eyes looked dilated.

Oh God. He’d been thinking about spanking her ripe little ass since the day he first met her. But no…it was a terrible idea. She had no clue what she’d be getting herself into. He shook his head. “Sorry Dimples. I don’t think you have any idea what you’re saying.”

Her chin kicked up a notch. “Don’t be so sure, Marine.”

Was that a challenge? His cock liked her sass. Too much. He should definitely not be getting spanky with this girl right now. “Nope. You need to get your rest.” He raised his eyebrows and jerked his head toward the bed, doing his best attempt at daddy-dom, which he didn’t even know was in his repertoire.

She held the paddle out to him. Her hand shook. “I need a demonstration.” Her voice cracked.

“Kaitlyn.” He made his voice sympathetic. “The last thing you need is to get mixed up with this sort of thing after what happened to you tonight.”

She swallowed. “I want to forget. I need to feel something different. I mean…I think I might like it. Please?”

He’d like to say it was just out of sympathy that he responded to her pleading, but his cock surged and strained against his pants because the idea of dominating his sweet little neighbor heated his blood.

This was such a bad idea.

Under HIs Command (A Decadence LA novella) by Maddie Taylor

Her steps lagged and she came to a halt as she stared at Flynn leaning against her driver’s side door, tall and handsome with his arms crossed over his chest. Like Colt, he was obviously pissed—correction, fucking angry—if the clenched jaw and the twitching muscle were an accurate measure of his fury.

Cassie didn’t budge from her spot, not moving forward or back, even when he raised his hand and crooked a finger at her. She swallowed, hard.

“Don’t make me come and get you,” he warned in a steely voice.

Her heart leaped into her throat nearly choking her. She wanted to run away and hide, except she wasn’t twelve and couldn’t do that again. She took a tentative step forward. As she did, he stood up, waiting. She stopped again.

“Come here, Cassie. I won’t bite.” When she started moving again, he added, “A trip over my knee isn’t out of the question, however.”

Her eyes shot to his, but his expression was unreadable, a lethal calmness in his eyes. She’d almost prefer his anger. As she came to a stop in front of him, she launched into her practiced speech.

“I’m sorry for running out without an explanation. I was taken by surprise when unmasked. I hadn’t intended to stay. Regardless, I hope we can be professionals and put this incident behind us and go on as we were before.”

He stared at her silently for a moment. “Rehearsed that all weekend, I bet.”

She gasped, which made his lips twitch ever so slightly. “How did you know?”

“I’ve been a dominant for nearly twenty years, and have learned a few things about submissives along the way.” His fingers curled firmly around her upper arm as he walked her forward, away from her car.

“Where are we going?”

Her question went unanswered as he stopped in front of a black SUV and opened the door. “Get in.”

She tipped up her chin, biting her lip as she met his still indecipherable eyes. Curiously, she noticed they looked more steel blue, than gray today. “What are you thinking?”

“That we need to go someplace quiet and talk. When we’re done, you’ll have a decision to make. Either way, you are definitely going home with a red hot backside.”

Catching Up…

Louisville signingHi! Wow, it’s been a while since I posted anything. Life has been a whirlwind, starting with a trip to Arlington, VA for the Passionate Pen conference, sponsored by Blushing Books, LazyDay Publishing and Mystic Books. The workshops were great! I met a lot of readers, authors, and editors and got to spend time again with some of my favorite folks, including Bethany, Allison, Joey, and Alta, some of the wonderful people at Blushing/LD/Mystic.

After that it was home again and back to the routine, well sort of. September was a busy month! I had a book signing at the library in my hometown, got to see a lot of old friends. The following weekend, I spent the an evening with my lifelong friends, you remember them, my Fab Five series was inspired by them. The next day, I traveled to Louisville, Kentucky for another book signing. Again, saw some old friends and met some new ones and already looking forward to the next Kentuckiana Authors Book Blitz. That wasn’t all. The weekend after that, we drove to Maumee, Ohio to attend the wedding of our great nephew. It was a unique and beautiful wedding and reception. Spending time with family we don’t see very often was fun. The next day, we went into Toledo and met with one of my readers on her birthday. She introduced us to her best friend and we had a good time visiting with them. After we left them, we stopped to eat at the famous Tony Packo’s before heading home to Indiana. Whew! Time for a break. So you would think. Are you kidding? After all that excitement, I had writing and editing to catch up on.

I recently finished a sweet Christmas novella, to be included in an anthology with ten other authors. The proceeds from Christmas Miracles will go to St. Jude’s Hospital. I’ll provide more information as it becomes available. Right now, it’s set to release at a special price on Black Friday and that price will run through Cyber Monday.

That done, I’m working on a spicier little Christmas story from my alter ego, Isabella Kole, titled Training Mrs. C. I”m expecting edits soon from another Isabella book, The Longing Within, which releases in November. Then it’s on to the next book. Never a dull moment around the old writing cave.

Fall is my favorite time of the year. I hope you’re enjoying the scenery and cooler weather as I am.

That’s about it for now. Just wanted to stop by and say hello. I’ll be back with a teaser and the cover from my November release soon.

You won’t want to miss this anthology….read on to find out what it’s all about.

AngelsSinners cover

Hi and welcome back to Anna’s world. In two weeks, I’ll be in Houston participating in the Indie Mashup! Wow! I got together with eight other authors who are attending and we put together an anthology. Each of us contributed a short story to give the readers a chance to sample each of our writing style. It’s a way to introduce ourselves to new readers but also to help out some veterans in the process. All proceeds from the ebook sales will be given to the Houston VFW Post 8790, which is where the book show is being held. We’ll have paperbacks, signed by all nine authors, for sale at the show. See any of the nine of us to purchase your copy. We’ll be the ones with flags at our table. We named the book Angels Sinners because that’s the Mashup theme this year for the tour.

Here’s the blurb for Angel Sinners An Anthology:

Nine Indie authors come together to give you a taste of their various flavors. Angels Sinners will warm your heart and have you on the edge of your seat. Whether it’s an angel or a sinner there’s something for everyone.

Let me tell you a little bit about my story, Shane’s Angel:

Angelica Raine is finally home. Sent away to Europe eight years ago by the father who was determined to turn his tomboy daughter into a lady, he had only succeeded in tearing her away from the two things that mattered most to his beautiful daughter. Rainbo Ranch was her home and she wanted nothing more than to run the family ranch with Shane Masters, the boy she left behind, by her side. Angel has come home, but with so many working against them, can she and Shane make their dreams come true or are they forever destined to be apart?

How about a little teaser from Shane’s Angel?

Chapter One

Shane Masters sat tall in the saddle of his chestnut colored purebred Arabian steed. His gaze roamed the vast spread of the prominent Rainbo Ranch and came to rest on the black Lexus that had just pulled up outside the main house. He watched with interest as the driver opened the back door and a stunning blonde emerged from inside the luxury vehicle owned by Shane’s employer, Bo Raine. So that’s Angel, he thought to himself as the corners of his lips turned upward slightly. Time’s been good to her.

Thinking back over the years, he remembered Angelica Raine as a cute, pig-tailed tomboy who loved the ranch and the horses as much as he had. Growing up on the ranch where his father, Neil Masters, had served as Bo’s foreman for many years, Shane and Angel, as he had nicknamed her as a child, had gotten into many scrapes over the years but their mutual love of the horses and Rainbo ranch had formed a bond neither had ever imagined could be broken.

Bo Raine had other ideas for his only daughter and heiress to the horse ranch he and his wife, Emma, had owned and operated since the early days of their marriage. No daughter of his was going to marry one of the ranch hands and be stuck in McKinney, Texas for the rest of her days. Oh no, Angelica was destined for greatness and on her sixteenth birthday he had gifted her with a trip abroad and an enrollment in a very prestigious private school in London. Kicking and screaming all the way to the airport, tomboy Angel had argued with her father and finally resorted to begging him to allow her to remain on the ranch and continue attending the local public high school. It was to no avail. Bo’s mind was made up. Even Emma, who had her handsome husband wrapped around her little finger, couldn’t persuade him to let their baby girl remain in Texas.

The day Angel left the ranch was the day Shane decided that in order to win Bo’s approval, he would have to step up his game and make something of himself. And so he had worked hard, played baseball and eventually was rewarded with a scholarship to North Central Texas College, where he played ball and studied Equine Science. It was his dream to one day take over his dad’s job as foreman of the Rainbo Ranch, at least until he was able to start his own ranch. He would show Bo Raine that he was good enough for his precious Angel.

Now eight years later, Angel was twenty-four, having finished the last two years of high school and another four years of college abroad. The past year she’d stayed in London to obtain her Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Her dream was to run the ranch. Her dad’s dream was for her to head a large corporation in the city.

Snapping himself back to reality, Shane saw a gorgeous, tall young woman with long, blonde hair cascading in waves halfway down her back. Gone were the pig-tails and the cutoff denim shorts. The Angelica he saw today was sophisticated, grown up and every inch a woman. She was wearing a pink suit with a pencil skirt and matching jacket. An ivory shell and ivory heels completed the picture. As she looked around the ranch where she’d grown up, her eyes locked with Shane’s for just a second. The moment passed as one of the other ranch hands approached her.

Shane seethed silently as he watched Bric Brimlow tip his hat and smile at Angel. The young man proceeded to take her luggage from the vast trunk of the Lexus and carry it to the house with Angel trailing behind. She didn’t look back at Shane. As she disappeared into the house, Shane turned his horse around and headed to the barn to check on the other horses. He needed some time alone. He’d seen what he rode up to the house to see. He’d seen his Angel, no longer a child, now a woman and a classy one at that. Had she changed otherwise? Or was she still his sweet friend from childhood? The only girl who’d ever held his heart in her hands just by smiling at him over a popsicle on a hot Texas summer day.

He approached the barn and swung his leg over the horse’s back, easily touching the ground. Tying Charmaine to the post outside the barn, he walked quickly into the large building and began talking to the stock of purebred horses owned by the Raines family. Quarter horses and Arabians, each one pampered and trained to perfection. The Rainbo ranch had a reputation for producing some of the best race horses and sires around the state.

“Here you go, Sugar,” he said softly as he began to brush the coat of one of the quarter horses.

“That daughter sure is a looker, ain’t she?” a voice boomed behind him.

“I assume you’re referring to Angel?” he asked as he turned and looked at Bric.

“Angel? I believe she told me she goes by Angelica,” the other man replied.

“Angelica and I go way back. Her childhood nickname was always Angel. I guess she’ll always be Angel to me,” Shane answered as he put the brush away, patted Sugar and stepped away from the stall.

His bright blue eyes met Bric’s green ones with an icy stare.

“Don’t get your knickers in a twist, man. I did the gentlemanly thing and carried her bags to the house for her.”

“My ‘knickers’ are not in a twist. We’d best get to work before the supper bell rings. There are horses to be brushed. I’ll take this side of the barn and you take that one.”

“Okay, okay. I don’t know who put you in charge but I’m not going to argue because I want to get done as bad as you do. I have a hot date with a little filly in town tonight.”

“As usual, who is it tonight?” Shane asked in an attempt to lighten the mood.

“That pretty little Lani Powers. You know her, red hair, petite little thing with the big boobs. She works at the hardware store in town.”

“I’ve seen her around.”

An hour and a half later, the work was finished and one of the other hands arrived with food for the horses. Shane told Bric to have a good evening and went home to clean up.

He lived with his parents, Neil and Christina, in a house on the back side of the ranch. It was smaller than the main house but was charming in its own right. It was one of the perks that came with being foreman. Bo Raine took care of his employees, unless they crossed him. He was not a man you wanted to be on the bad side of.

“Mmmm what smells so good, Mama?” Shane asked as he opened the kitchen door after leaving his boots outside on the porch.

“Fried chicken, your favorite,” his mother replied as she smiled at her only son. “Your sister is coming over for supper tonight. Willie has to work late so she is visiting us.”

“Married for a year and still likes to come home for Mama’s cooking,” Neil said as he leaned over and kissed his wife of thirty years.

“Terri would do anything to get out of cooking,” Shane said with a chuckle as he headed up the stairs to take a shower.

“Teresa is a good cook,” his mother said. She didn’t like the nickname Terri for her daughter even though Shane used it often.

“Did I see the car bringing Angel home earlier?” Neil asked when Shane returned to the kitchen a short time later.

“Yes, she’s back from London, finally. She looks completely different than I remember her.”

“She’s likely to be a completely different person now, son,” Christina reminded him gently.

“I realize that. I haven’t had a chance to talk with her yet. Brimlow made it a point to be the one who carried her bags to the house for her.”

“Bric likes the girls, we all know that. I don’t think it would be smart for any of the ranch hands to make a play for the boss’s daughter. He’s made it well known he has his sights set on something else for his darling baby,” Neil added.

“You know, Dad, there always was a special bond between Angel and me.”

“That was a long time ago and a lot has changed. If you want to step into my shoes when I retire next year, you’d better keep your nose clean. And that means staying away from Angelica Raine.”

“Now, Neil, the kids were friends for a long time. I don’t see the harm in the two of them renewing that friendship,” Christina interjected in Shane’s defense.

“I’m just saying, I’ve know Bo Raine a long time. Angel is his only child and he wants big things for her. I don’t think he relishes the idea of her marrying one of his ranch hands and staying on the ranch to raise babies and horses after he paid for that fancy schooling in England all these years.”

“Who said anything about gettin’ married? I just don’t see the harm in Angel and Shane being friends. Besides, ultimately it’s up to Angel what she does with her future.”

“Believe what you want to, but Bo won’t like it.”

“Emma has told me on numerous occasions that she’d like nothing more than to see her daughter settle down with a hard-working man like Bo and stay close to home.”

“Chrissy, I’m not going to argue with you about this. What Emma wants and what Bo wants may be two different things and that’s for them to work out.”

“Which puts poor Angel in the middle,” Christina replied as she began mashing potatoes.

“Hey, family, I’m home,” a voice rang out as Terri entered the kitchen.

“Just in time, Sis,” Shane said as he took the cake she’d brought and set it on the counter.

“Am I missing something?”

“Angel got back today. We’re discussing what she may be going to do with the rest of her life,” Shane explained as his sister sat down at the table.

“Ah, Angel, the object of your affection all these years, dear little brother,” Terri began. “How’s she looking after all these years across the pond?”

“She isn’t a tomboy anymore,” Shane offered with a chuckle.

“I’ll bet not. I can’t wait to visit with her. I’ve missed her.”

“So have I, Sis, so have I,” Shane mumbled under his breath as their mother set the food on the table.

“Enough talk about the Raines family. This is our family time. Terri, would you say grace for us tonight?” Neil said as he looked over at his daughter.

“Sure, Daddy,” Terri said as she bowed her head to pray.

After the supper dishes were done, Shane played cards with his family until Terri announced it was time to go home to her husband.

Alone in his bed later, he allowed his thoughts to return to his Angel. She was his. She always had been. And he would be damned if he would let either his dad or hers do anything to jeopardize that fact.

Sunny’s Love…A Little Bit Sweet…A Little Bit Sexy

sunnys-love-cover.jpg

Sunny’s Love has been out for two weeks now…and I’ve gotten such good feedback from it, I felt I had to give you another excerpt from it just in case you haven’t had a chance to read it yet…

Some of the comments I’ve gotten from readers:

“Vanilla will never be the same.”

“A sweet, yet hot read.”

“Not my normal read, I’m into paranormal and DD but I really liked this one.”

“Sexy and Sweet”

“I wish my love life was as sweet and romantic as this book.”

“Old-fashioned romance.”

“Romantic”

Here’s the Blurb:

Sunny Drake has had a few bad years.  First she lost her beloved father. Then her long time boyfriend married someone else.  Now the doctor she works for is retiring. When Sunny meets widowed, restaurant mogul Chase Dupont, who is suddenly in need of a nanny, she agrees to take the job, never dreaming the journey it will lead her on.

To save his business from being taken over by another company, Chase asks Sunny to marry him. It will be a marriage of convenience but it will be for life. She agrees since she’s already in love with him. But can she make him love her, too?

When Sunny suffers a fall and lies unconscious for days, Chase realizes all he’s ever wanted is Sunny’s Love. But a mystery begins to unravel as they realize Sunny’s fall wasn’t an accident. Someone is trying to murder her. Will Sunny and Chase get the chance to admit their true feelings to each other?  Or is it too late?

And here’s a teaser:

“Sunny, I don’t know how to begin…” He looked her square in the eyes, took another sip of wine, and went on. “I told you a large chain is trying to take over my company, but I didn’t tell you everything. The company is owned by a man and his daughter, Lindy. Lindy has been trying to get me in her bed since before Brittney died. My guess is she plans to convince me to marry her. After she gets her claws in my company, she’ll divorce me, leaving me with nothing.”

“That’s horrible, are you sure that’s what she’s up to? Maybe she genuinely wants you.”

“There’s nothing genuine about Lindy, believe me. But being the sweet person that you are, you probably wouldn’t understand that. I’ve been on to her for a long time, hopefully she doesn’t realize that.”

“I see. Is there more? Where do I fit into this bizarre scene?”

“Ah…here comes the part I’m unsure of. I’m not unsure of the plan, or of my part in it. I’m just unsure of how to best present it to you. I don’t know how you’ll react to what I’m about to ask you.”

“I’m listening,” she said, gently urging him to continue.

“I need to get married.”

“I see,” Sunny said, shock not quite a strong enough word to describe her feelings.

“Sunny, did you think about what I’d asked you to? Did you think about what you wanted to do in your future?”

“Yes, I did, and I came up with nothing. The past few years were tough. I lost my dad, Scott broke up with me, he married someone else, and Dr. Rose retired. I was lost as to what to do next, when you showed up out of the blue and offered me a dream job. I accepted on the spot and have not regretted it for one minute. I love taking care of your children and I had no plans to move on anytime soon, but if you’re planning to get married, I guess I need to start thinking about what comes next.”

“Sunny, I don’t think you understand.” Chase set down his glass and took her hands in his.

“I want to marry you.”

“What?”

“It would be a marriage-of-convenience, so to speak, a business arrangement. I trust you, Sunny. I trust you with my children, with my business, and with my life. I can’t think of anyone more suited. Your name would immediately be added to the business, no one could get it away from you, should something ever happen to me. You and the children would be protected. I’ve drawn up all the paperwork and added you to my will, that’s what I was doing in Des Moines this week. You would want for nothing, Sunny. You would enjoy all the privileges of being Mrs. Chase Dupont. All the privileges you want, of course, I’m not expecting you to jump in my bed the first night. Over time, who knows? You would be protected and well taken care of for the rest of your life. But that’s the catch. It would be for the rest of your life, Sunny. I won’t put my children through a divorce after they’ve lost their natural mother. You’d have to agree to stay with me. You would be my wife and their mother. And in the eyes of the world, no matter what goes on behind closed doors, we would be the perfect newlywed couple, madly in love with each other. I will be faithful to you, no matter what and I would expect the same from you.”

“Wow…I never imagined this was the plan. How will this save your company?”

“For starters, Lindy won’t be able to continue with her plan. She’ll have to come up with a new one. And with your name on the company and with you on the Board of Directors, she and her father won’t only be fighting me, they’ll be fighting both of us. I want to share it all with you, Sunny. Do you think there’s any way you can consider it?  I know I’m asking a lot, but I think we could make it work. I respect you, Sunny, and we get along well. The children love you. I’ll give you time to think about it, of course, but time is of the essence.” He looked into her eyes, once more, his gaze deeply penetrating.

“I don’t need to think about it. I’ll do it. I’ll marry you, Chase.” Her eyes met his and she smiled. If he only knew how much I wish this was a real proposal. At least I won’t have to worry about his ever being with another woman. He said he’d be faithful. And the pretending to the rest of the world certainly won’t be hard for me to do.

“Are you absolutely certain this is what you want? You do understand you’re making a lifelong commitment to me, Sunny.”

“I understand, Chase.”

“In that case, I picked up something for you in Des Moines before I left today. I hope you like it.” He took a small box from his pocket and opened it, revealing an exquisite diamond engagement ring. It was set in white-gold. The center diamond was large, with two smaller diamonds on either side of it. He removed it, took her left hand, and slipped it on her third finger. He got down on one knee and said, “Sunny Drake, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife? Will you consent to be mine for the rest of your life?”

“I will, Chase.” Am I dreaming?

He kissed her, a short kiss, but still a kiss to seal the deal. It was better than a handshake anyway.

“We need to make plans, Sunny. I want to announce our engagement as soon as possible. We’ll need to tell the children, our mothers, and the staff first, of course. Then we need to talk about the ceremony. It needs to be small and soon.”

“That’s all fine, but one thing I will insist on, if I may.”

“What’s that, Sunny?”

“I don’t want to be married at City Hall. I want to be married in a church, with a minister officiating. Even if this isn’t a traditional marriage, I want that.”

There you go! Even if a sweet mainstream isn’t your normal read, this has a little bit of heat, along with a little attempted murder mystery to go along with it. Why not give it a try? The sweet nanny and the hot boss…could make for a lot of heat along the way…as long as someone doesn’t get in the way…and end it all.
