An Interview With Author Mike Faricy

LastShot577528_10201986557457726_1608700659_nI have Author Mike Faricy with me today and I’ve picked his brain about writing along with a few other things. He’s going to tell us about his books, including his latest one. So pull up a chair, grab your beverage of choice and let’s see what he has to say.

Mike, tell me, what inspired you to choose your genre (genres)?

I write in the crime fiction genre primarily because I enjoy reading crime fiction as well as true crime. As much as I read and enjoy the genre it always puzzled me that there were so many works that dealt with the ex-special forces sort of guy who just wanted to be left alone, but someone pushed him too far and now he’s coming back with a vengeance. Or, the sort of tale where the protagonist just happened to grow up across the street from the head of the CIA, and now he has a special source for intelligence. My tales aren’t like that. They’re really about the sort of individuals we all know. We may wisely keep these individuals at a distance, but you know them none the less, and we’re curious. Maybe that sort of different guy in your high school class or that kind of crazy girl that bad luck always seems to find and she lives on the next block. They inhabit the strata of life just below the surface of polite society. They are not going to be saving the world from terrorists, stopping government coups or uncovering an international bank conspiracy. The situations they find themselves in are due to their own bad decisions, but then bad decisions make for interesting tales.

That sounds like an interesting genre to me. Now, next question, we all have issues with balancing our time between writing, editing, promoting, along with other obligations and personal time. What works best for you?

Well, what would work best was if I didn’t have to sleep, but that’s not happening. I really have to schedule my time and stick to it. By the way, this makes me just about the dullest guy in town. I try and deal with most of my promotional work before 9:00 in the morning. I break for breakfast then read and lightly edit what I wrote the previous day which maybe takes about two hours. Then I’m sort of in the swing of things and I try and write ten pages. Some days it’s eight and occasionally it’s twelve pages. I knock off around 5:00. I have a brief lunch in there somewhere. I usually have my phone off, no music or anything. I don’t work off an outline so at the end of the day no one is more surprised than me as to what has happened. I break for dinner then run errands or do social and promotional things in the evening. I don’t really watch TV that would represent three to five hours a night that I can be working ‘book stuff’. Having described my day it’s obvious my children are now out on their own. I no longer have the responsibilities that a young family require. Oh yeah, and I can’t have a glass of wine or a beer with dinner because I’ll drift off around eight o’clock. See, I told you I was dull.

Wow, what a busy day. I still work a day job but would love to be able to spend my day working solely on “book stuff” like you do. I want you to tell us about your characters next. What type of hero do you normally choose? What type of heroine?

My heroes usually have one foot on either side of the law. They deal with the day to day headaches we might all face. Hopefully assault, murder and kidnapping are not part of your daily routine, but they’re not involved in some huge international event. My characters deal in the messy side of life. They have a wise guy sense of humor, probably drink too much on a regular occasion. Possibly end up in a ‘relationship’ with the wrong sort of individual. Or, if they end up with the right sort of woman she usually throws her hands up and decides that the guy is just a little too much work and by the way her biological clock is ticking and well, thanks, but goodbye. Of course I never noticed this until it was pointed out to me, but it’s usually a woman who sort of saves the day for my guys, pulls their feet away from the fire. Then she tells them to never, ever call her again, maybe blocks their number, deletes them from her Facebook friends, files a restraining order, you know the usual…

Oh my gosh! Do they ever end up together? Being a romance author I’m partial to the happy ending you know. Who are some of your favorite authors? Did they inspire you to write?

Let me answer that in reverse. Yes, they did inspire me to write. I really got hooked on Tom Clancy, Vince Flynn, and Clive Cussler. Then, Robert B. Parker, Michael Connelly, Elmore Leonard, William Kent Krueger, Carl Hiaasen and on and on. I have a tendency to latch on to a new author and read everything they have written. I love the idea of ordinary people getting into screwball situations. I have a friend who did about six months of social work as part of a masters program. One of her cases was two brothers who get in a fight with one another. One guy stabs his brother. The brother who is stabbed gets behind the wheel of his car and runs his brother down, then drags him into the car and drives the two of them to the hospital. I mean you can’t make it up, and that was just their stupid act for that week. They did some equally outrageous thing the week before and the week after. I like writing about those sorts of characters. If nothing else at the end of my book you’ve been entertained. And you know what? Come to think of it none of us really seem all that bad based on the characters in my books.

Now for the tough question. What has been the most difficult aspect of your writing career?

I think the most difficult aspect of my writing career is just getting the word out to people that I even exist. It’s working now, or beginning to work. I have fans in the UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand. I was ranked number fifteen in crime fiction on Amazon in Germany for a while. I look back and it seems like a logical, structured plan when in fact it’s a series of grasping at straws and trying a million different things. Some of which work. Many of which don’t work, or take an incredible amount of time and effort. I’m never at a loss for stories and ideas, of course I’ve always been a good liar so that may have something to do with it. But in the end getting the word out and building that fan base has been a lot of work. It’s worth it, glad I did it, but it didn’t just happen.

I think all authors can relate to the problem of “getting the word out there.” Fun stuff now. Give us a little dirt about yourself. What’s your favorite guilty indulgence?

Like I said earlier I’m the dullest guy in town so there really isn’t a lot of dirt on me. Or, if there is the statue of limitations hasn’t quite expired so it’s best not to mention anything. I do play the bagpipes in a band. The Brian Boru Irish Pipe Band, here in St. Paul, Minnesota. I’ve been doing that for about a hundred years. It’s a lot of fun and you get to wear a skirt, oh sorry, wear a kilt around town. Of course that leads to a whole lot of stories that we shouldn’t go into here.

Okay…we won’t go there. So, Mike, tell us about your newest book.

My newest book is my thirteenth and has just been released. It is number six in my Dev Haskell series, entitled Last Shot. Dev Haskell is a private investigator with an eye for the ladies and a knack for making some wrong assumptions. Let me just say he finds himself in some unique situations. I had a lot of fun writing Last Shot and I have to say it’s an excellent tale. Dev turns down an investigation thinking he’s doing someone a favor and well, things don’t quite go as planned, but then they never do.

Once I finish a book I’m chomping at the bit to begin work on my next project. I don’t do a lot of signings, but I did two this past year and it bowled me over how many people wanted to know if I had a series. Then, they wanted to know what was the order in the series. My usual response was they’re all stand alone books and can be read in any order. That didn’t seem to make a difference, people wanted to read the books in order. Based on that experience I’ve come out with all new covers on the Dev Haskell stories that definitely indicate the books are a series and then after the title it lists a case number to indicate the order they were written. So, the official title of my most recent book is Last Shot: Case 6 in the Dev Haskell series. I’m currently working on a completely new series, I’d like to have two works completed in that by June 2014. The new series is going to be a little darker and more sinister than the Dev Haskell books, and I think just as entertaining. I’m also packaging three of my stand alone works, Chow For Now, Merlot and End of the Line as a trilogy and that package will be available in e-format hopefully by February 2014.

Hey, thanks for taking the time to get this far in the interview. Please check out all my books on Amazon. Please feel free to drop me a line, my email address is Mikefaricyauthor@gmail.com or you can find me on Facebook;https://www.facebook.com/mikefaricyauthor

Thank you so much for joining me here in Anna’s World today, Mike. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to know a little more about you. I, too, will have thirteen books out by the end of the year. I also have a series, so I can relate to the interest sparked by a series. Readers love them! Stop back by anytime!

A Visit With The Beautiful Ginger Ring

perf5.000x8.000.inddI am so pleased to have Ginger Ring visiting me today in Anna’s World! Ginger and I became fast friends…she is another one of the fabulous people I met through Ryan O’Leary. I have followed her career along the way because she was just in the process of writing her first romance when we met. I can’t tell you how proud I am of her. The day she received her first publishing contract was a happy day not only for her, but for all of us who know and love her. I’ve asked her some questions about her writing and about her book so get comfy and let’s see what she had to say…

What inspired you to choose your genre (genres)?

I like to write what I want to read. I enjoy contemporary and historical books the best but I would like to try my hand at just about anything. I have a lot of stories lined up to write including a time travel, a small town series, a historical. You name it, I want to write it.

And I’m sure we’ll love all of them. You are such a woman after my own heart. We all have issues with balancing our time between writing, editing, promoting, along with other obligations and personal time. What works best for you?

I am still struggling with that one. I am married and work full time so I really have to limit myself on what I can do so that I don’t bite off more than I can chew. I have so many thoughts in my head and things I want to write but I really just don’t have the time. I just try and do what I can when I can.

We could be twins…this is my problem too. Tell us about your characters. What type of hero do you normally choose? What type of heroine?

I like complex characters in a simple plot or simple characters in a very complex plot. The characters in my current book Getting Down to Business are pretty straight forward. They know what they want and work to get it. My WIP Best of both Words is the opposite. I have two characters that are forced to work together. Although attracted to each other, they are both still dealing with tragic loses as the result of losing the ones they loved and struggle with wanting or avoiding being in a relationship again.

Who are some of your favorite authors? Did they inspire you to write?

I love LaVyrle Spencer. She is a storyteller and that is something that I inspire to be. There are so many authors that I like to read today that it would take too long to list them.

What has been the most difficult aspect of your writing career?

I am quite shy so I have a problem with being in the spotlight. I prefer to be in the background. I write so I don’t have to speak. lol

You are shy? I would never have guessed that…Give us a little dirt about

yourself. What’s your favorite guilty indulgence?

Books, chocolate, and finding ghost or old gangster haunts.

We all know you write a blog featuring Cougar Worthy Men…who is your

favorite?

My friend, Ryan O’Leary is my favorite. He is great about giving me advice about my writing and isn’t afraid to give suggestions or tell me to do something over so that it can be better. I really enjoy reading his work as I can see things though a male perspective, which I love.

Yes, we share a common love of that one…Ryan is a sweetheart and I’ve often told people that it is through my early Facebook connection to him that I met a lot of the wonderful people I know today. Now, the part we’ve all been waiting for…tell us about your newest book.

My first book to be published is an erotica romance called Getting Down to Business. It’s about a woman and a man that have been so busy working on their careers that they forgot about having a love life. I don’t want to give away too much of the plot but I used a little word play with the title as they get down to business in more ways than one. It is available on Amazon right now and you can find it here.

http://www.amazon.com/Getting-Down-To-Business-ebook/dp/B00FMFSJLK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381089791&sr=8-1&keywords=getting+down+to+business+by+ginger+ring

Here’s the blurb for Getting Down To Business:

Tired of living life out of a suitcase, traveling auto parts sales representative Jessie Knutson jumps at the chance for a position close to home. When a flat tire keeps her from an interview appointment and the hot tow truck driver awakens her inner cougar, she realizes too much time away has done a number on her libido. Now the only position she wants involves being naked and pressed tightly against a hot, younger man whose eyes say she’s more than a roadside pickup.

BJ Spencer has no time for love with an auto parts store to run, though he yearns to find the right woman someday. So when the smoking hot redhead he rescues alongside the road gives him a sexy smile, he remembers sometimes a man needs to enjoy the finer things in life. Long legs encased in thigh-highs are definitely fine, but Jessie seems to be total perfection in a tempting package. BJ just might be able to make both business and pleasure work for him this time.

And now…drumroll please…here’s the Excerpt:

“I hope you like the blues, ma’am. We don’t get too many channels back here.”

Jessica nodded her approval. The sultry vibrations of Southern blues serenaded her. It didn’t take long for BJ to unload her car, pump up the jack, and start working on her tire. Watching the hunky mechanic work, listening to calming music, and feeling the wild rush of pre-storm air was exciting and nostalgic at the same time. She had grown up in a garage like this and instantly felt at home. The place was organized, quaint, and had the distinct smell of rubber and oil. A dark patina of grime coated the walls and worktables. A girly calendar and a time card machine graced the wall above the radio. Even the zip zip sound of the impact wrench was music to her ears.

Somewhere along the way—she really didn’t care when—BJ had shed his shirt. His arm muscles bulged as he pulled off the tire. His sculpted chest glistened, broad shoulders flexed, muscles tightening. Her breasts ached to be pressed naked up against his chest, her body wanted to be held tight in those strong arms. She loved a man with chest hair. Springy black coils enhanced his pecs before tapering to a neat treasure trail heading south. She clasped her hands together, but they still involuntarily wiggled on their own, itching to run their way through the thick, dark curls.

Jessie had time to think while watching him work. Her mind reeled with plans to seduce him, but she was starting to think that was what he wanted her to do. Maybe she would wait and enjoy the show a little longer. He didn’t seem to be in that big a hurry to get the job done.

He checked air pressure in the other three tires for possible leaks as well. BJ stretched and flexed his muscles several times—not that she was counting or anything. Her concentration broke only a couple times to listen to the severe weather warnings beeping on the radio.

BJ strutted by her again and returned from the office carrying a big towel. He headed to an outside water pump. Pulling the pump handle up, he splashed water from the hose over his glistening upper body and head. He shook his head sending a spray of droplets in every direction. Jessie smiled as she enjoyed the show. Boldly he glanced her way every so often and flexed a muscle or two. Yes, he was definitely hoping for some kind of response. She’d let him beg a little more. The click of the water handle hitting the pump ended his shower. Drying off with the towel, he headed back toward her chair.

His eyes locked on hers, a suggestive smile on his face. “Anything else I can interest you in today, ma’am, since we’re already here in the garage? Need any spark plugs, a battery check…” He grinned and raised an eyebrow. “Lube job?” The Southern drawl rumbled slow and exaggerated.

Jessica almost laughed out loud. If she was anymore “lubed up,” she would slide right off the chair.

Chatting It Up With Alicia Sparks!

Alicia#2Welcome back to Anna’s World! Today I am honored to be talking with the talented Alicia Sparks. I’ve asked her my usual questions and she’s provided me with some very interesting answers. Let’s see what she has to say!

What inspired you to choose your genre (genres)?

I’ve always had a love for all things supernatural and paranormal. When I was younger, I wanted to be a parapsychologist and I’ve worked with several groups on “ghost hunts.” I guess you could say I’ve always been attracted to the unknown. My first love was Lestat but now I’m more of a werewolf/shifter kind of girl.

We all have issues with balancing our time between writing, editing, promoting, along with other obligations and personal time. What works best for you? There’s nothing that works! I teach full time and our state has instituted a new curriculum this year, so I constantly find myself having to go to meetings and stay late for work. I have four boys and a wonderful husband at home who help keep me balanced and a little crazy. Most of my writing takes place marathon style. I’ll write for several hours in one evening then won’t write again for two weeks. I try not to pressure myself to get the work count!

I know that feeling. It’s hard when you work another job and have other obligations. Tell us about your characters. What type of hero do you normally choose? What type of heroine?

I love Alpha males who are strong, big and know what they want. But I also want them to have a soft side and not be afraid to say those three magic words. I like a little bit of mystery as well. I want my heroines to be strong. I don’t like those who are too weak to handle themselves. They don’t need to be rescued but they sure don’t mind an extra hand in the battle!

Who are some of your favorite authors? Did they inspire you to write?

I grew up reading anything with a romance cover on it. I love the old bodice ripper romances. I want something sexy, fun, dark, mysterious with a kickass heroine and a hunky hero. My first big inspiration was Anne Rice. I read her Beauty books and her Vampire Chronicles as a teenager. Talk about changing your perspective on things! I’ve always thought of Rhett Butler as the ultimate romantic hero because he loves Scarlett but he also calls her out on all her bs. I like that in a hero. I love the Black Dagger boys even though the stories got tedious in places. One of my all time favorite books is a little novella by Cara McKenna called Willing Victim. It contains all the elements I love in a story…well almost all. There’s nothing paranormal but the hero is definitely out of the ordinary!

OMG! We could be twins! I too, read those kind of books for as long as I can remember. Rhett Butler is my ultimate hero…Now tell me what has been the most difficult aspect of your writing career?

The most difficult aspect is probably what everyone else says. I have a constant Catch 22. When I have the time to write, I don’t feel “inspired” and when I can’t do anything other than think about the story, I don’t have the time. Every moment of my day is spent thinking about a story, researching a story, talking to people and collecting their stories or listening to music to set the tone for a story. If I had as much time to write as I do to think and plan, I’d have a million books out!

This summer has been that way for me…so many ideas and not enough time to write. Moving along…give us a little dirt about yourself. What’s your favorite guilty indulgence?

I love trash tv. I used to watch Dance Moms and Project Runway but decided to give

up cable this year. So right now my indulgence is Netflix. I’m rewatching all of Lost

from the beginning, and let me tell you, it is just as fun the second time around. I’m

also hooked on the very bad remake of Beauty and the Beast on the CW. It’s awful

but I can’t look away. I like to watch bad tv and think about what I would do to

change those shows. How would I add depth to the characters? Where would I add a

plot twist? I’m absolutely no fun to go to the movies with! Oh, and I am slightly

addicted to chocolate and diet coke!

Now for the important stuff! Tell us about your newest book.

My newest book is actually a series that will be coming out soon from Beau Coup. It is set in Louisiana and deals with Louisiana’s strange obsession with all things tigers. You may have heard of our little football team down at LSU. Anyway, years ago, I drove through town (I live in a tourist town in Central Louisiana) and I saw a sign advertising white tigers, like a sideshow attraction. I always thought that was strange. The sign only stayed for about two days and I never went to see the tigers, so as far as I know, they weren’t even real. But it had me wondering what would happen if a tiger was trapped in a roadside attraction but the tiger was actually a shape shifter. As time progressed, I saw that the Ian Somerhalder Foundation was working to help free some tigers that were being held at a truck stop near Baton Rouge. All this culminated into the story of the Maddux family, a group of shape shifting tigers in South Louisiana. Kenyon, the hero of the first story, is trying to break his brother out of the roadside attraction before his identity is discovered. In order to do so, he needs help from Sage, a wolf who is destined to be his mate. However, Sage is tired of cleaning up Kenyon’s messes and is determined for this to be the last time she bails him out. When they attempt to rescue his brother, Nik, Nik escapes into the swamp. His story is the second part of the novel. We learn why he was in the roadside attraction in the first place and what kind of woman it will take to tame the beast inside.

Bio: Alicia Sparks is a Southern girl with a flair for all things a little naughty. From writing about sensual ice cream to sexy tigers, her stories all contain a high level of heat, which she blames on her Southern surroundings and her smoking hot husband. She has been writing for ten years and shows no signs of stopping any time soon!

Book Blurb 1: Wild Shifters Anthology: When Hailey Conrad and her best friends head to New Orleans for her fortieth birthday, she has no plans for a hook up, but the mysterious stranger in the French Market seems to know exactly what she needs to mark the big 4-0. Of course, when she rubs the lamp, her most carnal fantasies come to life in a way she never imagined, leaving her knowing exactly what to wish for. http://jupitergardenspress.com/shop/wild-shifters-copy/

An Interview with Emily A. Lawrence

HopefulDreamscoverWelcome back to Anna’s World! Today I have the pleasure of interviewing Emily A. Lawrence. She’s going to tell us about a couple of her works. I’ve enjoyed talking with her and I’m sure you will want to hear what she has to say.

 Author bio:

Emily A. Lawrence is extremely passionate about fiction. She’s been writing stories, mostly fan fiction, for years now, but only began thinking seriously about publishing approximately a year ago. Encouraged by her family, friends and fellow authors she pursued her dream, and received her very first acceptance in March 2013.

She loves creating new characters and losing herself in their worlds. Usually, she writes contemporary romance in three heat levels: sweet, sensual and erotic. However, she would like to try her luck at other genres one day, such as paranormal or mystery.

When she’s not writing, she enjoys traveling and experiencing new cultures, new sceneries, food and meeting new people, or simply reading a good book.

What inspired you to choose your genre (genres)?

My stories contain explicit sex scenes, so they are addressed to 18+ readers. I enjoy reading a good romance which does not have sex behind closed doors. I have a wild imagination, but I’d rather read it than imagine it, so I guess this is why I decided to include such scenes in my books.

My first series of short stories featuring Carly and Robert (The Weekend Getaways Series) is erotic romance, but the “Soul’s Desire Series” I am working on at the moment is mainstream romance, which is more accessible to larger audiences.

We all have issues with balancing our time between writing, editing, promoting, along with other obligations and personal time. What works best for you?

Balancing time is never easy. I have a day job that keeps me busy 8 hours a day, but I manage to do a lot of editing while I’m at work. I do most of my writing during weekends or when I come home from work. Writing the book is just the first step. Promoting it is time consuming, but it is essential, so I do my best to do a little bit of everything every day.

Tell us about your characters. What type of hero do you normally choose? What type of heroine?

I prefer writing strong female and male leading characters. “The Guardian of my Soul”, the first book in the “Soul’s Desire Series” coming soon, is a good example of that. Both of them are strong, stubborn and independent characters, but they also have a weak spot.

Who are some of your favorite authors? Did they inspire you to write?

There are a lot of authors I love. Some of them are Stephenie Meyer, E. L. James, Dan Brown, Suzanne Collins and others. E. L. James’ story has inspired me the most, because just like her I too have been writing fan fiction for years, but never showed anything to anyone. After reading Fifty Shades, I turned one of my stories into Fifty fan fiction just to see what people thought of my writing. Even though the stories are so different from one another and I basically only borrowed the names of the characters in Fifty, I can honestly say that it was the readers’ reaction to it that has encouraged and motivated me to keep writing. Now that story will be part of the “Soul’s Desire Series”, so yes, my favorite authors have inspired me to read, write and express my creativity.

What has been the most difficult aspect of your writing career?

Every writer’s nightmare is having writer’s block. It’s happened to me a few times and it can be very frustrating. So when that occurs, I detach myself from the book, go for a walk, go shopping, read or edit something else, but never force myself into writing. I like it when ideas come naturally to me, and that’s when I’m most efficient.

Give us a little dirt about yourself. What’s your favorite guilty indulgence?

 Guilty? Hmmm…I really love pizza.

Tell us about your newest book.

“The Guardian of my Soul”, the first book in the “Soul’s Desire Series” will be published next month with Beau Coup Publishing.

Currently I have the first two books in the “Weekend Getaways Series” on sale, published by Secret Cravings Publishing. “Hot Dreams of a Lonely Soul” is the first and “Hopeful Dreams and New Beginnings” is the second. The third book in the series, “A Dream Come True” will be released in December.

Hot Dreams of a Lonely Soul – Book 1

Genre: Contemporary Erotic Romance

Book blurb:

Sexy former bikini model Carly Smith chooses to stay away from men after getting out of a bad marriage. Still traumatized by her past with her jealous, abusive ex husband, she is afraid to engage in another relationship, let alone be intimate with anybody. However, sparks fly when she meets her new handsome boss, Robert Benton. Extremely attracted to him, she finds herself in a delicate situation as he is constantly in her thoughts and haunting her dreams at night, turning her entire body into a time bomb of need, ready to explode. Each time she wakes up disappointed and alone, craving for his touch, but lacking the courage to turn her hot dreams into reality. What happens when Robert unexpectedly shows up at her door one night? Will she manage to overcome her fears and allow him inside, or will she deny him access?

Excerpt:

Raw need twisted in her gut. Anxious to see the rest of him, she unbuttoned and unzipped his jeans, then watched him hook his thumbs inside the waistband and peel them down his hips together with his boxers, freeing his huge erection.

She gasped before she could catch herself, her insides liquefying more at the mere sight of it. Suddenly she was dying to feel him inside her, stretching her cunt in the most pleasurable ways.

“Is something wrong?” A hint of amusement edged his words as he regarded her mischievously. “You look surprised.” Pure confidence of male pride laced his husky voice.

Carly saw the twinkle playing at the corners of his eyes. “You’re big…” she murmured, but hardly recognized the sound of her own voice.

“I am as big as I need to be to make you scream like never before and beg for more,” he said with a confidence that only enhanced her impatience, her channel quivering with the need to be filled. His deft hands spread her thighs wide and his eyes took in the glistening pink folds of her pussy now exposed to him. “Gorgeous!” He swept his tongue over his lips to moisten them. “I’ve wanted to taste this the moment I first say you.”

“Robert…” Her throat tightened and her mouth went dry. The color grew hotter and hotter in her cheeks under his profound glare, and she fought with the urge to pull her thighs back together. However, the look in his eyes was nothing like that of her ex husband. His was of pure joy and admiration and his gaze seemed to be worshipping her, sweeping her from head to toe. The realization soothed her, little silvery wings of anticipation fluttering through her and causing all her worries to dissipate into thin air.

Hopeful Dreams and New Beginnings – Book 2

Genre: Contemporary Erotic Romance

Book blurb:

After two traumatic years spent with her abusive ex husband, Carly swore that she would never remarry. With a low self-esteem and haunting demons from her past refusing to relinquish their grip, she could hardly confide in men until she met Robert, her handsome boss who managed to sweep her off her feet and show her the time of her life.

With his help, her fears and frustrations became a swell of lust, a wave of desire that aroused her numb senses, restoring her lost confidence and reviving her need for a man’s touch and affection, needs that she had suppressed for such a long time.

Naughty, erotic fantasies are fulfilled while on a well deserved vacation to the AndrosIsland in Bahamas, adding more spice to their steamy sex life.

Will Robert manage to convince her to give marriage another chance and start a new chapter in their lives?

Excerpt:

“Why are you so afraid that I’m going to leave, anyway?” she asked, running her hand up and down his firm abs. She could feel his muscles contract under her fingertips.

“Because it’s happened before,” he answered in a low, feeble tone.

Carly tilted her head up to look at him, taken aback by his answer. “What?”

“Yes, I’ve been dumped before. After that I could no longer trust women. I refused to get emotionally involved with anyone. It was nothing but no-strings-attached sex for me.”

She took a moment to process his words. “Who would want to leave you? You’re the sweetest, craziest, naughtiest man I’ve ever met and if someone locked me up in here with you for the rest of my life, I’d be more than happy to accept such punishment.” She pressed her lips to the pulse that was pounding in his throat, amazed that a sexy, clever guy like him would have troubles in love. Unable to help herself and feeling the need to erase the unwelcome memories she had stirred, she gave in to the impulse and licked along a damp line up his neck, nipping at his chin on the way. She hoped that the sensual treatment she was giving him was enough to make him put everything behind.

His voice was husky when he spoke, “I guess she had better plans…”

“Nothing could be better than this,” she stated and offered him a scorching kiss, devouring his mouth possessively. It was her turn to make him feel at ease. Determination oozed from every pore of her body, and she did everything she could to make him understand that she had no intention of leaving him.

“When you…showed up…for the job interview…” He tried to speak, but she kept interrupting him with kisses, his own tongue playing with hers with an eroticism that made her head swim and her need for him grow.

“Yes?” she asked, curious to hear what he had to say. She angled her head down and moved her mouth back to his neck, then swept it over the curve of his cheekbones, his stubble tickling her soft lips. Her palms were splayed against his chest and her fingers toyed with his nipples in a way that she knew inflamed him.

Robert let out a low roar and moaned her name unintelligibly, but he seemed to struggle to concentrate. “Carly…the moment I saw you…I was struck by your beauty. You innocent smile was the sweetest thing I had seen. I went home from work that day and nearly crashed the car twice. I couldn’t stop thinking of you. It was not something that I had experienced before and I wasn’t sure how to act. Then…once I found out what had happened to you I got so angry. I wanted you even more. I wanted you so much that I ended up knocking on your door in the middle of the night and asking you to sleep with me. Straightforwardness is my thing, but it was the first time I was doing that with somebody that I really liked. I acted on an impulse because I couldn’t stand one more day without holding you in my arms and loving you like you deserved it. I needed you…badly…”

Carly had stopped her playful assault and was hanging onto every word he was saying to her, their gazes locked in a heated clash. She felt an unusual sensation of weightlessness and the illusion held for a long moment as she stood enthralled by the promise in his eyes. “Any other man who would have showed up at that hour requesting such a thing would have most likely made me call the police. But you…I wanted you too even though I was scared as hell. I still can’t believe I did it. I could not recognize myself. But I do know one thing…that was the most beautiful, hot, sensual, enticing night in my entire life and I’d be more than happy to have nights like that with you for as long as I live.”

Their tender embrace turned to raging passion in the blink of an eye. Desire for one another spiraled higher, pushing away thoughts of the past and the future, lost in their happy place, their bodies yearning to move to the rhythm of a melody only they could hear.

Welcome Isobelle Cate!!!!

IsobelleCateWelcome to Anna’s World! I’m so happy to have Isobelle Cate with me today for a chat about her books. She’s going to tell us about her writing and then give us a sneak peek into two books. Let’s get started, shall we?

What inspired you to choose your genre (genres)?

I’ve always had a fascination for the paranormal especially vampires. There are so many things around us that we can’t explain and yet believe that they exist.

We all have issues with balancing our time between writing, editing, promoting, along with other obligations and personal time. What works best for you?

Gosh! For me, I’m lucky to have a very supportive family who knows that when I’m in the zone, I need that time to write otherwise, the story ceases to flow. I tend to write, edit, and promote as much as I can during the week after my day job and on weekends. Now that I have two books out and the second one being looked at by Beau Coup LLC, I’m able to ease up a bit and spend more time with my family.

Tell us about your characters. What type of hero do you normally choose? What type of heroine?

In both my Contemporary and Paranormal romance novels, my heroes are strong and virile men who can take anything thrown at them. They can kill without compunction or win business negotiations without scruples; but they also have this need to protect especially the women in their lives. Always. I want to show that even strong men have their moments when they are unsure if the women they have fallen in love with will love them back. Sometimes, my heroes have their moral compasses shot to pieces. It’s the women who help them find their way.

My heroines are women who depict everything we women are. Strong but gentle, loving and passionate, our men’s true north. My women are kick-ass when they need to be and they will fight and sacrifice almost everything for the men they love (Forever at Midnight, which is coming out has this kind of woman).

Who are some of your favorite authors? Did they inspire you to write?

I have several who I truly admire. The list is probably endless, but to name a few Donna Grant, Tina Folsom, Sable Hunter, Gray Dixon, Natasza Waters, Georgia Cates, A.N. Roquelaure (a.k.a. Anne Rice), Ruth Cardello and C.L. Pardington.

I’m a Harry Potter fan so that goes without saying at J.K. Rowling is a favourite author.

With respect to the classics, it would be Kahlil Gibran.

What has been the most difficult aspect of your writing career?

Rejections. Boy have I had a lot! Romance isn’t the only genre I’ve written in. It’s hard to do, but I made a conscious effort to take all rejections I receive in stride. Getting a rejection letter, I think, is part of the learning curve. After the initial disappointment, I tend to go back to the manuscript and see how it can be improved before I send it off again. I also keep telling myself that many authors have to go through this baptism of fire. Rejection toughens you and if you’re really dedicated to your craft then you will overcome whatever is thrown at you.

Readers are also intelligent people. If the story or the characters aren’t interesting, they won’t bother to continue reading. So it can be difficult to craft your characters, because they have to be multi-faceted and interesting. The plot also has to make sense so a lot of research goes into every novel I write. I have to keep my readers satisfied so that they come back for more.

Give us a little dirt about yourself. What’s your favorite guilty indulgence?

Uhhmm….buying ling….no, let’s keep it safe….Ice Cream! 😉

Tell us about your newest book.

Rapture at Midnight, published by Beau Coup LLC is the first of a series of books about the Cynn Cruors, an immortal group of warriors who carry vampire, werewolf, and human blood collectively known as the Kinare gene.

There is an on-going war between two breeds of immortal warriors who carry human, vampire, and werewolf blood, the Cynn Cruor and the Scatha Cruor. The Cynn Cruor want to live in harmony with human race. The Scatha Cruor want to enslave them.

Finn Qualtrough, a Cynn Cruor warrior is on a mission to find Dac Valerian, the leader of the Scatha Cruor responsible for the deaths of many including that of his parents. When he pursues three Scatha Cruor warriors who can lead him to Dac, he happens upon a woman who awakens a desire to claim her as his own.

She is the very essence of his immortal life.

Eirene Spence is an insomniac and a computer genius who loves walking in the park at midnight. She stumbles upon the Scatha Cruor and is almost killed until a handsome stranger rescues her. His touch ignites a hunger inside her that only he can satisfy.

He is her soul.

By some twist of fate, one of Eirene’s clients is Dac Valerian. She is able to tell Finn and the rest of the Cynn Cruor where Dac is hiding. Now Dac wants her dead.

Will Finn be able to keep Eirene alive and at the same time fulfill his mission? Will Eirene’s wish to be part of Finn’s life come true knowing that he is destined for someone else?

Excerpt:

Finn’s chest constricted with an unfamiliar emotion. The desire to please Eirene and see her happy replaced the need to simply slake his lust. There was a fissure on the wall he had built around his heart, allowing a ray of tenderness for the woman beneath him to shine through. He intensified the kiss and at the same time thrust hard into her. She cried out against his mouth, her breath harsh and staccato like. Finn moved, in and out, swiveling his pelvis against hers. Eirene lifted her hips, her head falling back in ecstasy. She made small sounds every time Finn’s pelvis moved against hers with quick thrusts.

Finn looked down at Eirene’s body, from her breasts and puckered nipples down to her stomach and her trimmed mound. Her entire body was flushed with the aura of intense arousal. He groaned when her channel clamped around his cock. Eirene’s breasts quivered faster and faster as Finn thrust harder and deeper, eliciting deeper moans and cries from her. He leaned over to latch onto Eirene’s exposed neck. He kissed and licked until he gently sucked the skin over her pulse, bringing the vein into sharp relief. He sucked hard without using his fangs.

“Yes!” Eirene turned her head giving him her neck.

The taste of her blood filled Finn’s mind, exploding through his neurons.

Along with her taste came an astounding piece of knowledge.

Eirene was a Cynn Cruor mate.

The question now was whether she was his. His scent needed to be on her when a Cynn Cruor brethren smelled her. It was a scent undetectable by a purely human nose. If he marked her, then whether she accepted it or not, she belonged to him. She was his mate.

The taste of her salty, sweet skin drove him wilder. He knelt on both knees as he covered Eirene’s body with his. Finn held on to her hips, thrusting harder, deeper, and faster. He groaned as his balls tightened, slapping against her backside. Eirene’s cries came in puffs of ecstasy until she screamed her climax. Her weeping sex throbbed and gripped Finn’s manhood in a snug vice, milking him as he went in and out until he growled and finally shouted his release against Eirene’s neck, calling out her name. His seed spurted into her womb, bathing and warming it. His heartbeat pounded inside his ribcage, the warmth of their coupling spreading through him like the fire in a forge. He held himself up over Eirene with both his arms braced beside her head. He was about to withdraw from her when she placed her hands on his hips.

“Please don’t go,” she said softly. “Not yet.”

Finn let his forehead dip against Eirene’s even as she lifted her mouth for a long and sensual kiss. Eirene’s arms crept under his arms and over his back. By the Ancients, he loved the way her hands smoothed over his sweat-slicked skin. He felt her racing heart slowly turn to a semblance of normalcy as his own heartbeat thrummed back to a slower pace.

Love in Her Dreams, published by Secret Cravings Publishing is a contemporary romance novella about how a love only found in dreams can become reality.

Blurb:

Alec and Tamsyn know they are meant to be together though they have never met. And yet their passion for each other consumes them when they dream.

Alec knows that Tamsyn is the woman for him, but finding her at the moment is an impossibility. Or is it?

After resigning from her job, Tamsyn takes a break in
Scotland when she feels the presence of the man who haunts her dreams. He is tangibly near and in Edinburgh. The sex they have in her sleeping moments becomes more real. But how can she find him in the streets of Edinburgh when the only thing she remembers is his touch, his scent, his passion?

Excerpt:

Alec rose above her to look at her face and kiss-swollen mouth. Her chestnut brown hair spread around her. Her sweet breath fanned the flames around them, then he closed his eyes as he shuddered. She held him firmly in her hands and her fingers around his cock were driving him insane. His breath was harsh as he looked down. His cock was painfully stiff and upright above her mound. He groaned as she continued rubbing him before she pushed him gently onto his back. He looked at how her hands perfectly held him. Up and down they went. He was mesmerized, his desire driving him to thrust against the snug ring her hands made. Her nipples were puckered, ripe and beckoned to him to take them again. He cupped them and circled his thumbs against them until she let out a low, throaty moan. Alec looked at her face. Her mouth was parted, her tongue licked her lower lip, her eyes dilated with unspent desire. He placed a thigh between her legs and pulled her hips down against it to rub her. She moaned in delight, as his thigh bathed in her juices. He closed his eyes as he imagined her sweet juices around his cock when he entered her later, bathing him with her need. When she splayed kisses over his stomach, Alec’s pulse raced further. He could feel his cock straining impatiently but she took her time. Then he felt her tongue against the underside of his shaft before she swallowed him. He groaned out his pleasure as his head pressed deeper into the pillow. His hips bucked and he gave in to the sweetness of her mouth. He thought he would go out of his mind when she looked up at him before he felt rather than saw her swirling her tongue inside her mouth against his pulsating rod. Alec held her hair away from her face as he watched her enjoying him. He hissed when she purred and the vibrations thrummed through his sensitive member. She sucked him, alternating between fast and languid, between short and deep throat strokes. Alec’s body trembled. He knew if she didn’t stop he would come. In less than a second Alec lifted her and lay her on the bed.

Leaning on one hand, Alec caressed her hip again before making its way to her wet slit. He looked up and saw her eyes widen and close halfway as she continued to move her hands up and down him. A trickle of pre-cum oozed out of him. Her forefinger swiped at it and brought it up to her mouth at the same time his finger entered her. She moaned and gasped at the same time and lifted her hips against him. She cried out when his thumb encircled her soaked pleasure nub. Then he placed a second finger inside her. Alec needed to taste her. It was one of the things he always looked forward to. He kissed her hard then licked the mole on her hip before he knelt between her thighs.

Thanks for being here with me today, Isobelle!

See everyone back next time when I’ll be talking about my next release, Book 6 of the Fab Five series, The Road To Forever.

Anna Welcomes Carlie Sexton

FallenForYou coverI am so happy to welcome Carlie Sexton to my blog today! I met Carlie last winter when my first book came out. She was writing then and we had several conversations about her work and about mine. I’ve asked her to answer some questions for me and she’s going to tell us about her books. Part 1 and Part 2 are now available and Part 3 will be out in September.

Anna: What inspired you to choose your genre (genres)?

Carlie: My Killer Next Door series~ Fallen for You, Taken by You, and Given to You are erotic romance thrillers. The story itself is based on some of my real life experiences when I was in college (no, not the sex). I made the story erotic because that genre is growing rapidly. My books are different with the serial killer twist.

Anna: You’re right about that, the erotic romance genre is growing and the serial killer does give it a twist. Next question: We all have issues with balancing our time between writing, editing, promoting, along with other obligations and personal time. What works best for you?

Carlie: I am a full-time teacher, so fitting in writing has been a challenge. I, of course, do all of the elements pertaining to writing in the evenings or weekends. Time management is an issue and I think I have become a little one dimensional in attempting to find a balance. Still a work in progress.

Anna: You sound like me. As most people who know me are aware, I am still working my full time Monday through Friday job, as well, and all my writing related work is done in the evenings and on the weekends. Throw in social and family obligations and it sometimes gets tricky meeting a deadline. Now, on to the the juicy question. Tell us about your characters. What type of hero do you normally choose? What type of heroine?

Carlie: The hero in my series, Neil, is based largely on my husband~ confident, slightly controlling, demanding, affectionate, playful, intelligent, adoring, communicative. I like a hero who goes after what he wants.

My heroine Kate is more on the aloof side to begin with, but she becomes putty in the hands of the hero once he has won her over. I like heroine’s who are strong, but let the man be the man.

Anna: Who are some of your favorite authors? Did they inspire you to write?

Carlie: This is an ironic question because Raine Miller did indeed inspire me to write. I work with her husband and found out she was writing books. Of course I bought Naked right away and devoured it. I decided I had a story to tell and began writing last September. She has been an inspiration and a mentor. Without her, I would have no idea how to promote my books and may not have even finished them at all. I also love Nicholas Sparks, Stephanie Meyers, Nora Roberts, Catherine Bybee, to name a few.

Anna: What has been the most difficult aspect of your writing career?

Carlie: Hands down it has to be promoting my books.

Anna: I have to agree with you there. It’s hard to get the word out there. Now, something I ask all my guest authors. Give us a little dirt about yourself. What’s your favorite guilty indulgence?

Carlie: I’m actually kind of boring. I do indulge frequently on mint chocolate chip ice cream. Ate some while doing this interview! Does that count?

Anna: Yes, it definitely counts. I love chocolate chip ice cream too but I prefer the vanilla rather than the mint. Now it’s time for you to tell us about your newest book.

Carlie: I am releasing the third book in my series~ Given to You in September. I have already started a fourth book about two characters from the series, Mac and Natalie. I fairly certain it will be called Beholden to You. Mac and Natalie find themselves in a situation that she wants to keep secret from Kate and Charlie. They begin dating, but an old flame threatens to destroy their budding romance. There are complications and the choice of who to be with is spurred on because of the complications.

Here’s the Blurb for Fallen for You The Killer Next Door Part 1:

If you believe your life is the sum total of your choices, what do you do when things just don’t add up? You are about to find out. It won’t be pretty. It won’t be dull. And surely, it won’t be safe. In fact, making just one wrong choice could put evil at your bedside watching you sleep.

And so it is with Kate Simmons, a young woman who, by choosing to regain her life, actually puts it at risk by the very choices she makes. After unimaginable heartbreak stops her world on a dime, Kate falls into a three-year blackness of self blame that brings her to the edge of life, itself. As time finally brings light back through tiny cracks of renewed desire, Kate moves out of the prison she made for herself in her mother’s home to find a new reality, rooming with her best girlfriend, Charlie.

Yet, to be free is to be vulnerable, and Kate’s choices more than ever mark a splattered line between being happy and being dead.

Care to choose? Here’s your menu:
A strangely alluring building manager so possessed with wanting you for his own, he’ll bury more than the fact he has a girlfriend; a buff college student for whom you are clearly hot, as are all the other girls on campus; a pushy lawyer who is as handsome as he is intoxicated with conquest, who doesn’t take no for an answer, who gets what he wants — always.

Sometimes, it’s whom you choose. Sometimes, it’s who chooses you. If you’re Kate, it’s both, and it puts you on a perilous road where good looks and humor are the thin masks of jealous delusion and utter violence.

You’re in trouble when the sum total of your choices is written in blood red.

Thanks so much for being my guest today, Carlie, and best of luck to you with the new release coming up!

Don’t forget to stop back by next week, folks, for the Rebel Ink Press third anniversary blog hop! There will be a big giveaway!!!! Until then…Love, Anna

Welcome Barb Han!

Welcome back to Anna’s World! Today I have Barb Han with me. I’ve asked her a lot of questions and she’s been gracious enough to answer them. Let’s see what she has to say!

BarbHanbook

First, I’d like to thank you for hosting me on your blog today, Anna.

Oh, you’re so welcome, Barb. I’m glad to have you here. Let’s get started.

  1. 1. What inspired you to choose your genre (genres)? I loved romance but didn’t know if I could write one, so I literally lurked in the back of a local romance conference. I was too scared to talk to anyone. Eventually, I plucked up the courage to join my local chapter’s loop and romance ideas started coming to me.
  1. We all have issues with balancing our time between writing, editing, promoting, along with other obligations and personal time. What works best for you? Seeing the word balance does make me chuckle. As a working writer with three kids, I keep thinking I need to get some of that balance. I do try to keep life as simple as possible. The two most important things to me are my family and my work, so that’s what I spend 95% of my day on. Everything else has to wait for a turn. Also, sadly, I gave up TV a few years ago. I miss it.
  1. Tell us about your characters. What type of hero do you normally choose? What type of heroine? This is a great question. Most of the time one or the other just shows up and starts telling me their problem. Once I get enough details about them and/or the story (via loose plotting), I start writing. My heroines are a match for the strong heroes in my stories and they take me on the journey along with them.
  1. Who are some of your favorite authors? Did they inspire you to write?  I felt inspired to write from a really young age. When I was little, I read every Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys book I could get my hands on. I still love a good murder mystery or suspense read. Most people will recognize these names:  Stephen J. Cannell, Sandra Brown, Linda Castillo, Cindy Gerard, and Harlen Coben. I also read these up and coming authors:  Jerrie Alexander and Diana Layne.
  1. What has been the most difficult aspect of your writing career? Having my first two releases come out within days of each other was an interesting problem. Soon after, I signed with Harlequin to write for Intrigue (squeee!). Trying to balance writing with promoting on top of a super busy schedule for my kids has been interesting to say the least. I barely skidded into summer this year grateful for the calmer pace. And yet, I wouldn’t change that ride for the world!
  1. Give us a little dirt about yourself. What’s your favorite guilty indulgence? Since I do a lot of research on weapons, the military, the FBI, etc, I’m pretty sure I’m on a couple of Watch lists. I would feel sorry for anyone who actually had to listen to my calls or shadow me for a day. They might actually succumb to boredom. Carpool? Again? Since I consider chocolate a necessary food group, I’d have to say my guilty indulgence is e! News. Don’t judge.
  1. Tell us about your newest book. Thank you so much for asking. Caught In The Crosshair is about a sister who is determined to help her brother no matter what it ultimately costs her. She teams up with an ex-special forces sniper and the race to save her brother (and themselves) begins.

Here’s an excerpt:

Lauren James had learned the hard way that sometimes the best childhood was a brief one, that there was a direct link between determination and success, and it only took one phone call to unleash hurt and memories she’d spent the past decade trying to suppress.

“H-h-elp me,” a man’s voice choked out. It was strained and cracked, and he gasped for air when he spoke. Even so, his identity was unmistakable.

She drew a breath, forcing air into her lungs.

“Max—”

“L-l-isten.” He made a strangled noise before his mouth must’ve moved away from the receiver. She heard a train and more voices. One…two…three…she counted, identifying at least three men with terse South American accents.

A crack followed by a pained grunt dropped her stomach to the floor, scrambling her nerves.

“Max. Max? Are you there? Are you hurt? Who’s doing this to you?” The words fired off like buckshot.

More muffled noises, and then a tortured scream seared her eardrums.

“Max?”

“Senorita, if you want tu hermano alive, you pay.”

“Pay? Pay what? Pay whom?” Should she call the police? Maybe she could reach her cell phone and dial 911 now while she still had them on the line?

“Pay or we cut him into pieces.”

Icy regret stabbed her chest. Why hadn’t she taken any of his calls in the past six months? Because the last time he called four years ago, he wanted to use her for money.

“No. Don’t hurt him. Tell me what to do,” she said, trying to keep panic out of her voice. Think. Think. Her cell was in her purse in the kitchen. Could she get to it?

“You bring in the cops, lady, we cut him up and mail you the pieces.”

No police. Of course they would have anticipated that. She’d have to go alone. Alone. Panic brought bile to the back of Lauren’s throat. It burned.

Scuffling noises came through the line before another loud crack sounded.

And a blurb:

Lauren James had ignored the recent spate of calls from her brother.  After all, he was a big player linked to a major cartel, and he’d been dead to her for nearly a decade. Then she receives the one call she can’t ignore—her brother’s been kidnapped and will be killed if she doesn’t bring money. No matter how far gone her brother is, Lauren can’t turn her back on him completely. Deep down she’s always wanted to save him. Now, she’s forced into action because he’ll die otherwise.

Ex-Special Forces sniper Jaden Dean owns a private security firm and after losing his older brother to gang violence, needs to take down as many scum bags as he can—single-handedly if need be. And he was the best. Until he trusted the wrong woman on his last assignment and ended up nearly dead in the street.

On a tropical island with a hurricane brewing and dangerous men closing in, Lauren and Jaden will need to work together to survive and find her brother. The cartel seems to be one step ahead and Jaden’s operatives are being killed one-by-one. He will have to use all his specialized training and risk everything, including his heart, to outwit the deadly group and keep Lauren safe. Their magnetic attraction isn’t helping matters…because even a slight distraction might just get them both killed.
